Travel Essentials

Let me just start by saying this – I’m an over packer! There’s nothing that irritates me more than being unprepared. I absolutely dread that feeling you get when you decide not to take something because you thought you wouldn’t need it and then it turned out that you did need it. Hoarder Alert! You need everything! Yep, that net mesh laundry bag for your underwear, you need that too. You might think, I’m not going to do washing on vacation but what if it’s three weeks long and you run out of clean clothes? The more you pack, the better you feel. And even though I take most of my skincare products with me anyway, there are a few products which have proven to be travel necessities.

01. Sunscreen
Whether you’re on a summer vacation or a winter wonderland, wearing an SPF is essential. It’s difficult to judge how harsh the sun’s rays would be in another country so I’m never without it. I find the winter sun incredibly harsh on my skin so even when it’s snowing out, I’ve got my SPF on. The sunscreen I’m currently using is the La Roche-Posay Anthelios Cream  SPF30 and I quite like it. It’s a slightly thicker consistency to what I prefer so I work the product into my hands first to make it more pliable. It works just fine under my foundation too. I think it’s due to the simplicity of the La Roche-Posay products that it doesn’t disrupt my foundation routine.DSCF294702. Eye Cream
Yep, you read that right. I’m not a wrinkle fighter just yet (touch wood) but hydrating the under eye area proved to be necessary on exhausting journeys and stressful travel situations. Travelling easily messes up your sleeping pattern and depending on how much of an anxious traveller you are, this could reflect in horrible under eye bags. I was recently on a journey which took a lot out of me physically and emotionally, partly due to culture shock and partly due to restless nights. I developed bags which sat comfortably under my horrendous dark circles. That’s when I popped out my Kiehl’s Under Eye Treatment with Avocado to feed those beasts. After a week, those bags diminished drastically and by the time I came home they were completely gone. Unfortunately, I can’t say how well this treatment would work for those of you who’ve had under eye bags for a while but for instantaneous bags that show up in stressful situations this product could be your best friend.DSCF294803. The Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate
I am a deep lover of all things Kiehl’s but this product is the apple of my eye when it comes to travel essentials. Changing environments and changing climates affects the skin which quite often results in a dehydrated complexion. Having a skincare regimen that closely resembles your one at home is important. Though it’s not always possible as climate change is directly proportional to product changes. I use the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate on all my travels because it can be used all year round. It’s not a seasonal product which you need to swap out once the weather changes. Because it’s always the constant in my routine, it helps my skin remain balanced when everything around me is changing. It has impressive recovery results. It relieves the skin of sores, spots and redness. It hydrates the skin leaving it soft and supple by morning. And most importantly, it heals the skin of any damages it goes through throughout the day, when on travelling, could be a lot more than your average day at home.DSCF2932So if you’re thinking why I still carry my entire skincare wardrobe with me when I know what I’ll use then you don’t understand me and we’re not friends. No, I’m totally kidding! But yes, these few products are my travel essentials and everything else gives me peace of mind. If you want to see my In Flight Skinacre Routine, click here. What? Did you honestly think a hoarder uses three products? We have real issues.

  1. This was quite an interesting read for me. I’m a bad over packer, and I am known for super fat suitcases which often get rejected by the airline for being to heavy! Of your list here, to me none are travel essentials because I only use coconut oil on my skin, so taking that with is my only beauty requirement. Its really cool to read about what others feel is necessary for themselves on holiday, we can be so different and its what makes evertything so unique.

    1. LOL for fat suitcases! I usually end up having to sit (and jump) on mine to flatten them out! Thanks for your comment, never used coconut oil on my face. I’ve only used it on my hair. Will look into that 🙂
